The MARA Madani Wakaf Fund recently achieved a significant milestone, accumulating RM21.1 million as of November 13, 2024. This fund, spearheaded by Malaysia’s Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), exemplifies the immense potential of wakaf in fostering socio-economic development and financial inclusivity.
Under its Semarak 20 initiative, the fund expanded through innovative programs like the “RM1 A Day Contribution”, making wakaf participation accessible to individuals across all economic backgrounds. Such inclusivity mirrors the fundamental principle of wakaf: a communal commitment to equitable societal progress.
The initiative channels these funds into impactful areas such as education and business development, fostering sustainable growth and empowering communities. Its success highlights the importance of integrating accessible contribution schemes and leveraging technology in wakaf management. Furthermore, robust governance systems ensure transparency and trust—essential pillars for any successful wakaf framework.
As Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.”
(Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 604)
Awqaf Africa can take inspiration from MARA’s model to advance its mission of economic empowerment across the African continent. By embedding strategic innovations and fostering collaboration, Awqaf Africa strengthens its role in achieving the Maqasid al-Shariah and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also said:
“When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity), knowledge that is benefited from, or a righteous child who prays for him.”
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1631)
By cultivating wakaf programs, we collectively contribute to ongoing acts of charity that serve communities beyond generations. Awqaf Africa remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering innovative solutions to uplift societies, foster equity, and promote resilience.
Awqaf Africa is a prominent organization dedicated to empowering communities across the African continent.
